"why have you insisted on renting guns every time you go to the range instead of just buying one even though it would be way cheaper?” Because you have to clean it.
oh i dont know. maybe. i mean i have seen jaws hundreds fo times since i was a kid. but my fear was never about sharks. It was about just being alone in the open water, drowning. But I will also say, the scariest thing I have about Jaws is the end where they have killed the shark but have to rely on the tide taking them in. And it's at least possible that I got this fear from the end of Jaws.
Good essay, thanks. I am not clear on why you won't buy a gun because you are "about to move out of Idaho." Are you moving to a place that will not allow you to exercise your Second Amendment right? If so, I wonder if you might want to reconsider your move.
I would gently suggest moving somewhere else . . . but if you do move to NYC you will need a gun more than back in Idaho. Or at least will need to stay out of a whole lot more specific neighborhoods if you do not have one.
I bet you recall the shooting at Roseville (OR) Community College about 15 or so yrs ago. A TV journo is interviewing a clean-shaven blonde male w/a military haircut. Mr B says he has a gun & a concealed carry permit in his truck. “Did you go get it,” asks the TVJ. “No,” says Mr B, “I did urban patrols in Iraq, so I know two things: 1) the police are on the way, and 2) if they see me with a gun, they’ll shoot ME.” I’m glad Mr Good Guy w/A Gun didn’t get shot by the cops, but that’s the OTHER probability you didn’t mention. When the cops arrive, they have no way of knowing who the villain is, so they focus on the guns. Maybe Mr GG was known to the police as a GG, but he was damn lucky too.
I was in London the exact week before the terrorist bombing in the Tube in the early 2000’s - I believe it was a Friday and if I had been one week later I would have been on the Tube in the exact time and place it happened - you live long enough, you realize these near misses happen all the time

pretty good issue
"But I have a huge fear of boats." Is this because of constantly watching Jaws as a child?

"Spider-Man: Brave New Day"
the Brand New Day/Brave New World mashup no one wanted
I'm not going to lie, I thought about this a LOT when I first fired an employee.
